Weight Machines
A weight machine is an exercise tool that uses gravity as the primary source of resistance. Gravity combined with simple machines such as pulley, lever, wheel and incline convey resistance to the lifter. The simple machines adjusts the mechanical advantage of the weight machine. There are two kinds of weight machines namely the stack and the plate-loaded machines. A stack machine has a set of massive rectangular plates pierced by a vertical bar with holes drilled in it to accept a pin. The plates above the pin are lifted when the bar rises. The plates below the pin do not rise.

Plate-loaded machines use standard barbell plates instead of captive stacks of plates. A weight machine is a good choice especially for beginners at strength training. It provides support for those learning new routines and those rehabilitating from injuries. It is a better choice than a barbell especially if there is no spotter around to help. A weight machine is easy to use, saves time and less intimidating. However, weight bars are limited and cannot do total body workout. They also do not allow to work on weaknesses and prohibits the body to work naturally.
