Power Cages and Racks

A weight lifting power cage is also known as power rack, squat cage or squat rack. A power cage consists of a pair of interconnected side and rear frames. It provides a safe area to lift very heavy weights. The side frames carry a carriage that moves vertically and front to back. The carriage has a weight bar that also moves vertically and front to back as well as a pair of vertical weight rack bars. The lifter can rack the weight bar without stepping forward or backward. The power cage is used in several exercises including squats and over-head presses.

A heavy-duty power rack with user-friendly adjustments and a barbell set is a better choice for weight and strength training. When buying a power cage, choose a unit that is sturdy, rugged and built to withstand intense and regular use. Some models have adjustable spotter arms, attachment options like cable crossover and dip handles. A power cage is a one-piece equipment that fits in a room corner providing almost a complete free weight workout.
