Dumbbells
A dumbbell is one of the different kinds of free weights. It is a piece of equipment used in weight training, which can be used individually or in pairs, one dumbbell for each hand. It is relatively cheaper than most exercise machines and provides for amazing variety of resistance-training routines. Dumbbells are primarily used by wrestlers, body builders, athletes and those wanting to increase strength and muscle size. The dumbbell’s familiar shape came out around the early 17th century.

There are two kinds of dumbbells, adjustable and fixed-weight. Adjustable dumbbells has a metal bar with a cross hatch pattern at the middle to improve grip. Weight discs or plates are inserted onto each end of the bar and secured with clips/collars. Fixed-weight dumbbells have dumbbell shape mostly made of either cast iron with rubber coating (expensive), or rigid plastic shell with concrete filling (inexpensive).
